AMFED in cooperation with The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law ICNL planned and implemented a national media consultation on “The Role of Media in Supporting Civil Society” in October 2008, at Al-Ahram Regional Press Institute. The consultation brought together young media practitioners, civil society representatives, and officials from the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

Dr. Ayman Abd Elwahab, NGO and civil society expert at Al Ahram Centre for Political and Strategic Studies and Randa Fouad, President of AMFED, prepared and presented two dialogue paper entitled “NGOs Law: Priorities and Challenges” and “The Role of Media in Supporting Civil Society”.

The consultation aimed at building the capacity of media and civil society representatives to best tackle issues on the effects of Egypt’s Civic Association Law No. 84 for the year 2002 on CSOs ; their achievements and challenges; as well as general principles in the proposed amendments law.

The consultation served as a platform to exchange information and experiences between media and civil society specialists. Communication campaigns were developed to become more familiar with various aspects of civil society organizations (CSOs) in order to effectively communicate the information through the media.
