Mission

The Arab Media Forum for Environment and Development (AMFED) is a non-profit, non-governmental regional Arab media organization that seeks to empower, enable, and encourage the Arab media to address development issues through dialogue among media practitioners and other sectors of society, using a participatory approach, in order to build the capacity of the media to provide citizens with fair and balanced information on development issues in order to make responsible and informed choices.

Vision

AMFED’s niche is facilitating dialogue in the Arab region within the media and between the media and other sectors. AMFED seeks to function as a center of knowledge for media involvement in development issues. The organization seeks to leverage these elements to work towards sustainable development in the Arab region—environmental, economic, and political. Sustainable development is best practiced as an organic model. In this spirit, AMFED is an NGO seeking to “speak the corporate language” which combines the idea of non-profit work and social responsibility with a private sector approach. Part of AMFED’s strategic vision for sustainability is to pursue a hybrid model of operation, whereby the organization pursues grant-seeking activities but also offers income-generating services to local, regional, and international companies and organizations seeking media and development-related services.
